iPad Air 2 vs iPhone 6 Camera Comparison: How Much has Apple Improved the Camera?

By Rich W Woods

On October 16, 2014, Apple announced the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3, Retina iMac, and Mac Mini. While there were no improvements to the iPad Mini line aside from Touch ID, the iPad Air 2 was just the opposite. For the first time, Apple used 2 GB RAM and a triple core processor in a device. Compared to other iOS devices, this thing is a powerhouse.

There is one more notable improvement that Apple made to the iPad Air 2. They gave it an 8 MP camera, where the iPad previously had 5 MP. There is still no flash.

Sony Xperia Z3 Review: Sony makes a Splash in the United States

By Rich W Woods

As of today, the Sony Xperia Z3 will be available for T-Mobile. I have been spending quite a bit of time with the Xperia Z3 for the past two weeks and have been absolutely delighted with it. The Sony Xperia Z3 is an absolute pleasure to use. It’s super fast, the camera is amazing, it has a beautiful display, and it’s waterproof. Users will be able to play Playstation on it as soon as Sony makes the app available.

While I was spending so much time with the Sony Xperia Z3, I was reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in parallel. While using both phones at the same time, it was like night and day. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was an absolute nightmare, the Sony Xperia Z3 was something out of a dream.

The Droid Turbo has been Announced. Time to Geek Out!

By Rich W Woods

Today Motorola announced what The Verge inaccurately described as a “souped-up Moto X”. I’m not sure why they would say this. Maybe because it has a similar display?

Anyway, the Droid Turbo seems to be a powerhouse. It uses a 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, the same that is used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Nexus 6. It will use a 21 MP rear camera, 2 MP front camera, a 5.2″ AMOLED display, and it will record video. According to GSM Arena, it will run Android 4.4.2, but I’m sure that is a misprint and it will run Android 4.4.4.

Treasure Tags: Another Innovation from Nokia

By Rich W Woods

Back in July, Nokia released a clever little product called the Treasure Tag. When they mailed me the Microsoft Screen Sharing Accessory to review, they threw in a Treasure Tag as well and I was so impressed with the little gadget, I wanted to do a write-up of it.

Let’s start with what a Treasure Tag is. A Treasure Tag is a little Bluetooth square that pairs with your phone. It comes with two cases: one with a strap and one without.

LG G3 vs Sony Xperia Z3 Camera Comparison: The Final Showdown

By Rich W Woods

Over the last week and a half, I have been spending a lot of time with the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. One thing that has blown me away with both of these phones is the amazing 20.7 MP camera. In fact, the Sony Xperia Z3 even outperformed the Nokia Lumia 1020 in low light comparisons.

The scope of this review will be to compare the camera of the Sony Xperia Z3 to the camera of the LG G3. While the camera on the Sony Xperia Z3 is fantastic, the 13 MP camera on the LG G3 is pretty amazing as well with the laser focusing. I’m pretty excited to look at these side by side.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Review: A Perversion of Innovation

By Rich W Woods

Perversion: the alteration of something from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended.

Innovation: a new method, idea, product, etc.

Almost a year and a half ago, when I started For the Love of Tech, I called my reviews User Reviews. The reason for this was because the products that I was reviewing were products that I used for my day to day life. I wasn’t getting free review units, I wasn’t getting flown out to California for an iPhone event, and I wasn’t under the threat of not being invited back if I gave something a bad review.

I stopped calling the User Review in favor of Review and a title because more and more, I was getting devices for the sole reason of reviewing them. They were no longer devices that I used for personal use; however, I have always stayed true to the idea of giving honest reviews. This is why reviews at For the Love of Tech don’t come out the same day that the product launches. It comes a couple weeks later, after I’ve spent some time with the device.

That being said, this is going to be an honest review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Some will love me for it and some will hate me for it, but there is one thing I can promise you: the facts you will read are true and the opinions you will read are honest.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs HTC One M8 Camera Comparison: Megapixels vs Ultrapixels

By Rich W Woods

This will be the final camera comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 before I send back the unit I’m reviewing. So far, I have compared the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the camera of the iPhone 6 Plus, OnePlus One, LG G3, Nokia Lumia 1020, and Sony Xperia Z3. The scope of this comparison will be the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the HTC One M8.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the HTC One M8 have great cameras, but in completely different ways. The camera on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a high resolution camera, coming in at 16 MP, while HTC takes the ultrapixel approach, working under the belief that a great picture can come from great software.

Nokia Lumia 1320 Review: Best in its Class

By Rich W Woods

There are tons of different kinds of phones out there. First, there’s the operating system. There is Windows Phone, Android, and iOS. Then, there is the quality. There are low end phones, mid-range phones, and high end phones, and each one comes in each operating system. Then there are mini phones, regular sized phones, and phablets.

As far as budget Windows Phone phablets go, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is best in its class. Obviously, it’s the only one in its class; however, there are very few budget fabulist that exist overall. A lot of credit can be given to Nokia for making a sister to the Nokia Lumia 1520 that is a bit more affordable.

Office 365 Subscribers will now get Unlimited OneDrive Storage

By Rich W Woods

Back in mid-July, Microsoft announced that Office 365 users would receive a whole terabyte of OneDrive storage. They even changed the amount of free storage from 5 GB to 15 GB.

There is nothing new for free account users, but Office 365 subscribers will now get unlimited storage, and it was done in true Microsoft fashion. They gave users 1 TB, pundits said, “Why would they do 1 TB? Why not just make it unlimited?” and Microsoft rebranded.

You can sign up for a preview of unlimited storage by clicking here. I’m not sure why they bothered to make a preview program. I guess it’s for if you happened to be at your terabyte limit.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs LG G3 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

I have been spending a lot of time with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. As with all new phones that come out, we compare the camera to competing cameras. So far, we have compared the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the iPhone 6 Plus, Sony Xperia Z3, OnePlus One, and Nokia Lumia 1020. The scope of this column will be to compare the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the camera of the LG G3.

For all of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s faults, it does have a fantastic camera. The stunning 16 MP camera is not only super fast, but the photos look beautiful on the 1440p AMOLED display. The LG G3’s camera is laser focused, so we can expect to see some really sharp pictures. Let’s start with specs.
