Treasure Tags: Another Innovation from Nokia

By Rich W Woods

Back in July, Nokia released a clever little product called the Treasure Tag. When they mailed me the Microsoft Screen Sharing Accessory to review, they threw in a Treasure Tag as well and I was so impressed with the little gadget, I wanted to do a write-up of it.

Let’s start with what a Treasure Tag is. A Treasure Tag is a little Bluetooth square that pairs with your phone. It comes with two cases: one with a strap and one without.

Nokia Lumia 1320 Review: Best in its Class

By Rich W Woods

There are tons of different kinds of phones out there. First, there’s the operating system. There is Windows Phone, Android, and iOS. Then, there is the quality. There are low end phones, mid-range phones, and high end phones, and each one comes in each operating system. Then there are mini phones, regular sized phones, and phablets.

As far as budget Windows Phone phablets go, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is best in its class. Obviously, it’s the only one in its class; however, there are very few budget fabulist that exist overall. A lot of credit can be given to Nokia for making a sister to the Nokia Lumia 1520 that is a bit more affordable.

Office 365 Subscribers will now get Unlimited OneDrive Storage

By Rich W Woods

Back in mid-July, Microsoft announced that Office 365 users would receive a whole terabyte of OneDrive storage. They even changed the amount of free storage from 5 GB to 15 GB.

There is nothing new for free account users, but Office 365 subscribers will now get unlimited storage, and it was done in true Microsoft fashion. They gave users 1 TB, pundits said, “Why would they do 1 TB? Why not just make it unlimited?” and Microsoft rebranded.

You can sign up for a preview of unlimited storage by clicking here. I’m not sure why they bothered to make a preview program. I guess it’s for if you happened to be at your terabyte limit.

Microsoft Releases Second Build of Windows 10 Preview

By Rich W Woods

Less than a month ago on October 1, Microsoft released the technical preview of the next version of Windows, Windows 10. It brought back the start menu as well as adding some new functionality such as multiple desktops.

Over the last week, Microsoft has been rolling out their first major update to the Windows 10 Technical Preview. The new build number is 9860, and considering that it’s only 19 builds higher than the previous public build, it’s quite a feat that they added 7,000 new features.

Sony Xperia Z3 vs Nokia Lumia 1020: The Gold Standard Test

By Rich W Woods

The Sony Xperia Z3v is has come to Verizon this week and the Sony Xperia Z3 is coming to T-Mobile on October 29, so as always, we compare the camera to all of its competing cameras.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is the gold standard of smart phone cameras. It has a 41 MP Pureview camera with a Carl Zeiss lens, a real xenon flash, and support for taking RAW photos. While the Nokia Lumia 1020 was released almost a year and a half ago in July, 2013, it is one of few smart phones released that long ago that remain relevant.

Nokia Lumia 635 vs Nokia Lumia 1320 Camera Comparison: David vs Goliath

By Rich W Woods

Nokia Lumia 635 1320The Nokia Lumia 635 and the Nokia Lumia 1320 have quite a bit in common. They are both budget phones, they both have low resolution LCD displays, they both use Snapdragon 400 processors, and they both have 5 MP rear cameras.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 does have a few bells and whistles that the Lumia 635 does not. It has a flash on the rear camera and it has a front camera. Oh yea, did I mention that it’s 6″ in size?

The Nokia Lumia 1320 just got Lumia Cyan. Let’s see how much the Camera Improved

By Rich W Woods

Just last week, the Nokia Lumia 1320 received the Lumia Cyan update. I know, it seems like forever ago that Microsoft finished Windows Phone 8.1 and we’ve been waiting for it on our phones ever since. After all, the Nokia Lumia 1520 got it back in June. Remember, no one on Verizon or T-Mobile have Lumia Cyan yet and no one on Sprint has Lumia anything. Prior to the 1320, no one except AT&T has received the Lumia Cyan update in the United States.

Nokia makes great cameras. They always have. Even the low end 5 MP camera on the Nokia Lumia 635 is great, so I expect the Nokia Lumia 1320 to live up to that. Like the Lumia 635, the Lumia 1320 has a low resolution LCD display, meaning that you really can’t tell the quality of the photos from viewing them on a phone.

Nokia Lumia 1320 First Impressions: A Little Big Phone

By Rich W Woods

The Nokia Lumia 1320 stands alone in its own corner of the smart phone market. It is one of very few budget phones with a large screen.

One could call the Nokia Lumia 1320 a sister phone to the Nokia Lumia 1520, but without the high end specs. Currently, the Nokia Lumia 1320 is only available for Cricket Wireless and as an international unlocked variant.

OnePlus One vs Nokia Lumia 635 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

Last Sunday, the Nokia Lumia 530 was released in the United States. While it is supposed to be the successor to the Nokia Lumia 520, the specs are inferior to the Nokia Lumia 520. In fact, the camera can’t even focus. I ended up finding that the Nokia Lumia 635 would be a much better idea for comparisons, even though it has been available since June.

I have been spending a lot of time with the Nokia Lumia 635 lately along with the Nokia Lumia 530, Moto G, Moto XiPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. I compared the camera to the Moto G, Nokia Lumia 530, iPhone 6, Moto X, and Nokia Lumia 1020; however, the one community that would crucify me if I don’t include them is the OnePlus community, so here it is.

Nokia Lumia 635 Review: A Whole Lot of Bang for your Buck

By Rich W Woods

The Nokia Lumia 635 was released back in June 2014 and I’ll be honest. I overlooked it. Last weekend, the Nokia Lumia 530 was released in the United States on Cricket and T-Mobile. Unfortunately, the Lumia 530 looked like something that was made for emerging markets. It has 4 GB storage, a Snapdragon 200, and a 5 MP camera that can’t focus.

The Nokia Lumia 530 really isn’t a fair successor to the Nokia Lumia 520, which had that 5 MP camera but it had the ability to focus. That’s when the Nokia Lumia 635 caught my eye.
