Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Review: A Perversion of Innovation

By Rich W Woods

Perversion: the alteration of something from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended.

Innovation: a new method, idea, product, etc.

Almost a year and a half ago, when I started For the Love of Tech, I called my reviews User Reviews. The reason for this was because the products that I was reviewing were products that I used for my day to day life. I wasn’t getting free review units, I wasn’t getting flown out to California for an iPhone event, and I wasn’t under the threat of not being invited back if I gave something a bad review.

I stopped calling the User Review in favor of Review and a title because more and more, I was getting devices for the sole reason of reviewing them. They were no longer devices that I used for personal use; however, I have always stayed true to the idea of giving honest reviews. This is why reviews at For the Love of Tech don’t come out the same day that the product launches. It comes a couple weeks later, after I’ve spent some time with the device.

That being said, this is going to be an honest review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Some will love me for it and some will hate me for it, but there is one thing I can promise you: the facts you will read are true and the opinions you will read are honest.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs HTC One M8 Camera Comparison: Megapixels vs Ultrapixels

By Rich W Woods

This will be the final camera comparison with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 before I send back the unit I’m reviewing. So far, I have compared the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the camera of the iPhone 6 Plus, OnePlus One, LG G3, Nokia Lumia 1020, and Sony Xperia Z3. The scope of this comparison will be the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the HTC One M8.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the HTC One M8 have great cameras, but in completely different ways. The camera on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a high resolution camera, coming in at 16 MP, while HTC takes the ultrapixel approach, working under the belief that a great picture can come from great software.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs LG G3 Camera Comparison

By Rich W Woods

I have been spending a lot of time with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. As with all new phones that come out, we compare the camera to competing cameras. So far, we have compared the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the iPhone 6 Plus, Sony Xperia Z3, OnePlus One, and Nokia Lumia 1020. The scope of this column will be to compare the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the camera of the LG G3.

For all of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s faults, it does have a fantastic camera. The stunning 16 MP camera is not only super fast, but the photos look beautiful on the 1440p AMOLED display. The LG G3’s camera is laser focused, so we can expect to see some really sharp pictures. Let’s start with specs.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Nokia Lumia 1020 Camera Comparison: The Gold Standard Test

By Rich W Woods

Last week, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was released on all of the major carriers. Although the device itself isn’t the best device around, the camera is fantastic, as is with all Samsung devices. When you get a device with a great camera, the next logical step is to compare it to the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is widely renowned as the best smart phone camera. It has a 41 MP camera, RAW support and a real xenon flash. It is a Pureview camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. It’s just great.

So far I have compared the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the Sony Xperia Z3, iPhone 6 Plus, and the OnePlus One. The scope of this comparison will be the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Nokia Lumia 1020.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs iPhone 6 Plus Camera Comparison: Clash of the Titans

By Rich W Woods

By no means is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 going to be the best phone this year and by no means does the iPhone 6 Plus have the best specs this year, but they do have one thing in common: they will both get the most media attention of any phone this year.

If there are two groups of fans that hate each other, it’s Apple fans and Samsung fans. It’s “we did it first” verses “we did it right”. It’s super power verses seamless experience. It is the clash of the titans.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs OnePlus One Camera Comparison: Battle of the Phablets

By Rich W Woods

Last week, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was released in the United States. It will undoubtedly be the most expensive as well as the most powerful phone on the U.S. market.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be the best phone on the market. The best phone on the market is always up for a debate. That’s why I have declared it to be the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple has innovated the smart phone once again with a larger phone and a mobile payment system.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Sony Xperia Z3 Camera Comparison: The Best of the Best

By Rich W Woods

There are two brand new phones out there. Last Wednesday, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 came to AT&T. Later this week, the Sony Xperia Z3 will be coming to T-Mobile and the Sony Xperia Z3v will be coming to Verizon. While it is widely known that Samsung doesn’t make the best phones, but they do have fantastic cameras.

We can go a little into which phone is better overall. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has an AMOLED display, but it is incredibly bloated with 67 preinstalled apps and five pages of Settings. It’s just a mess coming right out of the box. The Xperia Z3 is the exact opposite. Sony’s flagship is simply a pleasure to use.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 First Impressions

By Rich W Woods

Although it was announced about a month and a half ago, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has hit the shelves for some carriers such as AT&T. Other carriers will make the phone available on Friday.

Coming out of the box, this is a stunning phone. the AMOLED display is brilliant. The metal around the edges makes it look great. The thin plastic plate on the back still feels cheap but hey, it’s Samsung.

With iPhone 6, you still can’t do the stupid crap from the Samsung Commercial

By Rich W Woods

Being just three long days away from iPhone 6 launch day, we’re all super excited. We are going to get a new 4.7″ iPhone 6 and a new 5.5″ iPhone 6 Plus. They even announced Tim Cook’s first new product category, the Apple Watch. It’s even going to have NFC, something we thought we would never get from Apple.

So this is great right? Remember back when Samsung put out the commercial making fun of iPhones? No, not that one. No, not that one either. This one:

Samsung Announced Note 4, Note Edge, Gear S, and Gear VR

By Rich W Woods

While the event is still happening, Samsung has announced four products: Note 4, Note Edge, Gear S, and Gear VR.

The Samsung Note 4 is exactly what you would expect from Samsung’s Note line. It would appear that the screen has gotten even bigger. From what I could tell it was 6″. It will use LTE category 6.

The Samsung Note Edge is a Note where the screen wraps around the sides of the phone. From what I could tell, it only wraps around one side and it looked a little ugly. Personally, I think they could have done better by just getting rid of the bezel.

The Gear S is a huge smart watch. It has a two inch curved glass display that wraps around the wrist in a similar way as the Gear Fit. It does not have a round screen as some expected.

The Gear VR is actually a virtual reality helmet (or goggles). It can be used for content watching, video calling, and possibly gaming.

CORRECTION: The screen on the Note 4 will be 5.7″.
