iOS 8.1 Ships Today. Here’s some Helpful Tips

By Rich W Woods

As you probably have heard, iOS 8.1 ships today to all devices currently compatible with iOS 8. There are two main features of iOS 8.1: Apple Pay and all of the stuff that Apple promised would be in iOS 8 but didn’t get done in time.

When iOS 8 came out, I wrote a guide to iOS 8, so I won’t go into any features that already exist in iOS 8. I also wrote one about freeing up space for an update, but I’ll brush over that here because so many people buy 16 GB iPhones and it is an important topic.

Did Apple Break your iPhone? Here’s how to Fix It

By Rich W Woods

This is a tip that everybody should know. I learned it when I first started using iOS 7 betas. When you use a developer beta with Apple, you have to register your UDID number with your developer account. If you don’t do that, you will be locked out of your iPhone and you have to restore the old version of iOS to get your UDID.

This serves the same purpose. It is a very easy thing to do.

How to take a Screenshot with the Moto 360 or any Android Wear Watch

By Rich W Woods

In writing my review of the Moto 360, I knew I would need to take some screenshots. Unfortunately, there is no way to do that with Android Wear. After doing a little Binging, I found some tutorials that say to connect it through USB. This would work great with a Samsung Gear Live or an LG G Watch, but the Moto 360 is wireless.

Luckily, it’s very easy to do it through Bluetooth. Well, about as easy as hammering a nail with your bare hand. But if you follow these instructions, you’ll do just fine.

Here’s how to check which apps use the most battery on iOS 8

By Rich W Woods

Apple has finally allowed users to check which apps use how much battery the app drains. With the iOS 8 update, users can now check battery status, do flyover tours, change keyboards, and use widgets. There is even a new graphics platform called Metal which has thus far been utilized by an app that was shown off by Apple at WWDC called Epic Zen Garden and also the game Asphalt 8.

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to check how much battery each app uses.

By Rich W Woods

iOS 8 is allowing iOS users to customize their iPhone and iPads more than ever before. Because of this, many iOS users are not immediately going to know how to use these features.

How to Install a new Keyboard on iOS 8

By Rich W Woods

The most welcome change to me in iOS 8 is the ability to change the keyboard. The stock keyboard in iOS is like a typewriter. On every other touchscreen platform, when it’s about to type a capital letter it shows capitals and when it is about to type lowercase it shows lowercase.

Here’s a quick demo on how to install a new third party keyboard. I chose Swype because it’s a great keyboard and, to be honest it was the only one I found in the App Store this early.

Simply download the app from the App Store, go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Add New Keyboard and locate the keyboard you just downloaded. Here’s a video tutorial:

No Space on your iPhone for iOS 8? Here’s some useful Tips

By Rich W Woods

If you own an iPhone 4S or better, an iPad 2 or better, or a fifth generation iPod Touch you have probably attempted to download iOS 8 by now and have found that the update requires between 4.5 GB and 5.7 GB.

Unfortunately, the most popular iPhones are the base models which are 16 GB. If you bought an iPhone while your phone wasn’t the newest model, you probably got an 8 GB model, which ships with 4.7 GB free space.

So how can you possibly install a 4.5 GB update on a phone that only had 4.7 GB free space? I’m sure you don’t want to delete all of your photos, apps, and music. It is very possible and very easy. Here’s a guide to help you through the process.
